DESCRIPTION

Bound is a prototype co-op action adventure puzzle game made for a Game Prototyping class at USC in Spring 2018. The story is about two devils (played by the two players) who have escaped Hell and manage to get into Heaven. Players get to comically cause absolute havoc among the inhabitants, temples, mazes, gardens and other holy grounds.

The purpose of this class was to focus on creating fun and engaging gameplay. But we still enjoyed making a really silly story. Art assets and the story did not make it into the final build because of time constraints.

RESPONSIBILITIES

I was one of the 2 designers on a team of five with 3 programmers. Some of my responsibilities with Bound were:

  • Writing a simple story framework.

  • Designing, crafting and implementing puzzles that featured two player cooperation and asymmetrical gameplay.

  • Documenting and prototyping levels and puzzle designs and communicating those designs to the programming team.

  • Greyboxing and implementing puzzles in Unity using Probuilder.

  • Designing the tutorial level to show players co-operation in Bound.

  • Collaborate with the other designer to interpret feedback and iterate on the levels and puzzles.

  • Designing the interactive behaviors of the tether and how that affects both the players, the enemies and the environment that they interact with.
